David Blaine Lets It All Hang Out
by Molly McCall

Since Monday, the man who excels at looking death in the eye and reaping the P.R. benefits has been hanging upside down in New York's Central Park.
David Blaine's much-documented turn as a sleepy vampire bat will come to an end tonight, when he hits 60 hours defying gravity and makes a "dive of death" toward the ground. Naturally, ABC will be there to capture the entire drama on camera.
Judging by the look of things on the Web, the alphabet network might have a hit on its hands. Over the past seven days, lookups of Blaine's name have surged nearly 1,400%, landing the spectacle-maker among our top movers of the week.
Yesterday, queries like "david blaine upside down" and "david blaine live" spiked, and demands for the showman's secrets, his levitation abilities, and his conjuring tricks heaved upwards. The only query really missing from the bunch is: "david blaine—why?"
But ours is not the place to question, only to marvel. And marvel we do, at how adept this magician-turned-stuntman has become at sparking buzz
