Ron Paul Winds Down, Kind Of
On Thursday, Ron Paul posted a video clip to the Web. His presidential campaign "will soon wind down," he said. "Though victory in the conventional political sense is not available in the presidential race, many victories have been achieved due to your hard work and enthusiasm."
So, good night, good luck, and thanks for all the unconventional political upheaval? Well, not exactly. Today, the Texas congressman made a correction on CNN: It's not over. That was all Buzz needed to know.
A USA TODAY article on Paul's I'm-still-ticking statement immediately surged to the top of Buzz. It's currently holding steady as the second most popular article in Politics over the past 24 hours. Demand for "ron paul" spiked into our top hourly searches; it continues to hover there now.
However, even revolutionaries get tired, and things do seem to be winding down for the Constitution-wielding politico. Searches for Paul's name may be up today, but over the past 30 days they've dropped more than 60%. As John McCain has built on his delegate count, searches for "ron paul 2008," "ron paul for president," and "ron paul forums" have gradually lost momentum.
There is one glimmer of hope among the Paul-related buzz. Queries for "ron paul for congress" picked up this week—and Lone Star voters sent him back to Capitol Hill with a wide margin. After all, tomorrow is another day.
