Rudy, Bernie, and the Buzz

Life on the campaign trail is hectic. For Rudy Giuliani, it's been especially busy lately.
Besides making the usual stump speeches, the Republican presidential candidate has had to sidestep questions about Bernard Kerik, his one-time prison chief, police commissioner, and protégé. Kerik was recently indicted on federal corruption charges—many of them from the years he reported to Giuliani.
The ex-mayor of New York has also had to "laugh off" the $100 million lawsuit brought by Kerik's ex-squeeze, Judith Regan. The publisher is claiming she was forced to lie to investigators about Kerik "because of the implications for Giuliani."
Despite the feet shuffling and chuckles, Giuliani hasn't squelched the reaction to these events. News of Kerik's alleged misdeeds has spread like a grease fire across the Web. Yesterday, searches for "bernard kerik" leapt 1,222%. On Yahoo! News, demand for "giuliani kerik" now falls just behind "rudy giuliani" and "giuliani poll." And buzz on "judith regan" is surging.
There is a bright point for the candidate. Lookups for "rudy giuliani" have remained steady. Maybe if the candidate stays dynamic at the podium, searchers will soon forget his association with the beleagured Bernie.
