The Coachella Side of the Moon

The indie rock festival Coachella announced its 2008 lineup this morning, and it came with a few surprises.
According to the news release, Jack Johnson and Portishead will headline the famously eclectic series. So will Roger Waters. The aging Brit rocker is slated to perform "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety. With a $269 ticket price (plus fees) for a festival pass, we can only say: Money, it's a gas.
But what's a few hundred bucks when it comes to art, right? Buzz for the hipster happening registered an anticipatory surge of nearly 430% yesterday, blasting into our top 50 movers for the day. Fans primed for the annual affair also turned up the volume on "coachella 2008," "coachella 2008 lineup," and "coachella 2008 lineup rumors."
The roster of acts wasn't the only thing stirring up gossip. Perez Hilton—who is just about the least likely person to rock out in the dessert—posted last week that an East Coast version of the West Coast event will launch this year. Now we know it's true. The All Points West Music and Arts Festival will take place in August in New Jersey. That should be just about as gritty and sweaty as the California version. Rock on.
